Ahmedabad to Dwarka by Cab - A Pilgrimage Road Trip That's Worth Every Kilometre

Dwarka isn't just another destination on a Gujarat tour list. For a lot of families, this trip has been planned for years - sometimes decades. It's one of the four Char Dham sites in India, and for many people, making the journey to the Dwarkadhish Temple is something that carries a weight that no other trip does. Which means the logistics need to be right. You don't want a cab that cancels at 5 AM. You don't want a driver who's unfamiliar with the route.

The distance from Ahmedabad to Dwarka is roughly 445–450 km. By road, that's about 7 to 8 hours depending on traffic through Rajkot and the stretch beyond. It's a full-day drive - comfortable in a good car, tiring in a bad one.

The Route

Most cabs take the NH48 out of Ahmedabad toward Rajkot, then pick up NH27 heading west toward Jamnagar and then down the Saurashtra coast to Dwarka. It's a straightforward highway drive for the most part. The stretch after Jamnagar gets quieter and a bit more rural, and there are stretches near the coast where the road runs close to the Gulf of Kutch - which sounds scenic, and it is.

Rajkot is roughly the halfway point. Most drivers stop here for a proper meal break - there are decent dhabas and restaurants on the highway, and it's a natural pause before the second half of the drive.

Why a Private Cab Makes More Sense Than a Train Here

Dwarka has a railway station, but the train connections from Ahmedabad are limited and take significantly longer - 10+ hours on some routes with changes. If you're traveling with elderly parents, which many Dwarka pilgrims are, the train option gets complicated fast. Luggage, platform changes, narrow berths, timing uncertainty.

A private cab is just easier. You leave when you want, stop when you need to, and arrive directly. No coordination headaches. For this kind of pilgrimage trip, the Ahmedabad to Dwarka cab makes practical sense even before you factor in comfort.

If you're starting your trip from Ahmedabad and want to check available vehicles and fares, TaxiCraze covers this route on both one-way and round-trip pricing.

What to Do in Dwarka

Most visitors spend one to two full days. The Dwarkadhish Temple opens for darshan four times a day - the morning session around 6–6:30 AM is the most peaceful, least crowded. The evening aarti, around 7:30 PM, is more atmospheric if you can stay.

Beyond the main temple, there's a proper pilgrimage circuit: Gomti Ghat, the Sudama Setu bridge, Rukmini Devi Temple (about 2 km from the main temple), and Nageshwar Jyotirlinga - one of India's 12 Jyotirlingas - about 17 km out.

Beyt Dwarka is about 30 km away by road, then a short ferry crossing. It's a different temple complex on an island and worth the detour, especially if you have a full day in Dwarka.

Your cab driver can double as a navigator through all of this - especially for the Nageshwar and Beyt Dwarka portions where having your own transport is almost essential.

Combining Dwarka with Somnath

A lot of pilgrims combine both in a single trip. Dwarka and Somnath are about 230–235 km apart. If you have three days, the circuit looks like this: Ahmedabad to Dwarka (Day 1), Dwarka darshan (Day 2), Dwarka to Somnath (Day 3), then return. Four days if you want it less rushed.

The Somnath taxi service from TaxiCraze connects these two destinations smoothly. Booking the full circuit as a multi-day arrangement tends to be more economical than booking each leg separately.

From Rajkot, there are also direct cab options to Dwarka if you're flying in and connecting from there.

One-Way vs Round Trip Pricing

If you're planning to return by a different route - say Rajkot and back via Bhuj - a one-way cab makes more sense financially. One-way taxi from Ahmedabad to Dwarka starts at around ₹4,800 for a Sedan and ₹7,000 for an Innova. Round-trip pricing is available too if you're coming back the same way.

For group travel - three or four people - the Innova is the sensible choice on a route this long. The boot space, the legroom, the ride quality over 9 hours makes a real difference.

Before You Go

A few practical things: confirm your hotel near the temple well in advance if you're traveling October through March, when pilgrimage traffic peaks. Book your cab 24–48 hours ahead minimum - this is not a route where same-day availability is guaranteed during festival periods.

And don't skip the early morning darshan. You'll thank yourself.
